With reference to your despatch

No.247 of the 20th.of July, I have the honour to state

that the salary of the Assistant Engineer to which post

you approved the appointment of Mr.Robertson in your des...

patch No.26 of the 31st.of January 1899, is correctly

shown in the Estimates as $1080 per annum, although the

appointment is incorrectly printed in italics. The salary

of the Engineer-Mr.J.W.Kinghorn, a Marine Engineer in

private employ- is $720 per annum.

I assume that you have no object-

ions to Mr.Robertson being granted en increase of 20%

on his salary of $1080.
